Kile spell checking
Kile is a top-notch KDE frontend LaTeX editor. Enabling spell checking for it requires a small trick if you’re running Ubuntu, which is Gnome based. Several options, including spell checking, for KDE applications are configured within the KDE control center. To get the job done, proceed as follows:
- First, you need to install the KDE control center
sudo apt-get install kcontrol - Then, open KDE control center by running the
kcontrolcommand, navigate toKDE Components -> Spell Checkerand set the spell checkingClienttoASpell - Spell checking will now be enabled next time you start Kile!

How to enable -t switch in aspell for ignoring tex commands?
June 29th, 2008 06:53
I had thought there was something wrong with kile as I didn’t find settings for spell check anywhere. But KDE is a great thing – especially with its component based approach!

I should also mention that I had to : Run kate -> Settings -> Configure Kate… -> Editor -> Plugins -> Enable KDataTools Plugins.

Sorry, but since intrepid ibex there seems to be a problem with kcontrol:
root@ubuntu:/home/carsten# sudo apt-get install kcontrol
Paketlisten werden gelesen… Fertig
Abhängigkeitsbaum wird aufgebaut
Lese Status-Informationen ein… Fertig
kdebase-workspace-bin kdelibs4c2a
E: Paket kcontrol hat keinen Installationskandidaten
ideas anyone?

The package is not existent in the intrepid repository. You’ll need to use the hardy repository for that purpose. Check the thread on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=6325083 for details.

Any tips on how I can get Kile to mark mispelt words as they are typed?
March 24th, 2009 18:09
a straight forward approach would be to install the kde package “system settings” and ispell. no further configuration necessary and you don’t have to deal with old versions of kde (kcontrol has been eliminated from the current version of kde)
hope it helped

apt-get install ispell systemsettings
under intrepid solves the problem!
April 27th, 2009 21:53
For me, the only way to enable inline spell checking in Kile was to change to gedit!!
November 26th, 2009 11:59
Installing systemsettings didnt solve the problem for me, i still dont have inline spellchecking in kile. This should have been solved 5 years ago… Amazin that kde is still so totally outdated.

How do we set the spell checker in system settings ? There is no option like that. I am using lucid lynx.
